Just wanted to show our appreciation to the good townsfolk of Aspen who gave Swingin’ Dick and the crew a wonderful blowout last Saturday night ! And in welcoming our soon to be permanent guests there. While ya never know what’ll happen next with Swingin’ Dick, it’s sure to be a wonderful time and we’ll be sure and post some pics of the zany activities and rip-roaring time.

Both a blessed event and a bit of sad news for the crew–Wilma is going to be heading out to raise a family so it’ll be no more Wilma Fingerdoo for awhile. Taking her place is that wonderful and renowned virtuoso Richard A. Fitzwell. We give a warm welcome to Dick, and are sure he’ll fit in here !

Just a quick update as we get ready to jump in the jet on the trip ! We’ll post the links to a live recording of the Swingin’ Dicks at their gala bash and hope y’all will be joining us for the festivities. Dick’s call sign will be Slashr 1 in the lead jet so feel free to follow us on Flightaware. See ya there tomorrow ! And we’ll be sure and post some pics later about the fun.

Well, some BIG news for all you followers of the band. Under a joint venture sponsored by our good friends at Diatomaceous-Johnson, Swingin’ Dick is coming to Aspen ! And we’re not coming alone; we’re bringing three 737 size planeloads of Aspiring American Citizens along with us. The good folks at D-J have decided to help with the migrant relocation crisis, and when Dick was called upon to help, he just couldn’t say no. We look forward to a HUGE celebration with the residents of Aspen this Saturday the 24th of September. All are invited and we expect our new refugee friends will find warmth and hospitality amongst the good citizens of Aspen, CO and that they will be keen to welcome them to America; providing lodging and employment for a few planeloads of folks who want to WORK and see the best of America. While Dick and the Band will have to move on after Sunday, we expect our newfound guests to find a home in this mountain paradise amongst a welcoming townsfolk.

While we’re at it, Dick and the Boys will be working too ! Dick will be part of the flight crew on the first Boeing out of Laredo (which will have some of our refugees on board as well as the band) on Friday; busses have been coordinated to bring waiting migrants from Eagle Pass and points northwest to Laredo where they’ll catch their flights. Unfortunately, due to terrain and airport/aircraft considerations, we’ll have to land at Eagle County Regional Airport, Colorado but it’s a short bus trip into Aspen from there (Y’all are welcome to meet us at the airplanes; our ETA is early Saturday morning and will be updated on Flightaware). Transportation for all has been coordinated–you’re welcome to tag along with the busses as we roll into Aspen and give a honkin’ warm welcome to Dick !

The band will be setting up the bandstand at Rio Grand Park around 6 PM (Rio Grande Place off of Mill Street if you need directions but our bet is you won’t be able to miss the huge bash !). We expect food vendors but bring your own chairs (that is if you want to sit down between the rip-roaring sets of dance music !). And be the first to welcome our guests to America ! Not too many folks get to dance with someone fresh in town from Venezuela so parents make sure your sons and daughters have the night off after their chores !

Dick and the Boys will be letting ‘r rip–and if there’s one thing about Dick and the band is they can go all night ! We’re expecting the festivities to last well into the morning hours perhaps even through sunrise. The weather is supposed to be good–but with just some fall nip starting in–so be sure and dress warmly if you can’t stay warm enough cutting that rug !

Our benefactor for this gala event has asked to remain anonymous so we’ll respect his anonymity. The only thing we’ll say is he loves to wear a big RED hat !

Our Clients Come Through !

Unfortunately, Tara Dikov had a bit of an injury while out eating at one of our favorite stops in Pennsylvania. While playing for the wonderful college groups at Pitt and CMU, our group stopped to eat at the Original Hot Dog (a fantastic place) in Oakland, and got food to go. Poor Tara had a mishap while handling the wiener, and wound up needing a few stitches in her lip. This will take her off the roster for just a bit, but you can bet that Tara will be back as soon as she recovers. We wish her a speedy recovery and she’ll be welcome back as soon as she’s fit.

Substituting for Tara on the road while she convalesces will be the renowned artist John A. Mahogov. Everyone on the music scene knows Jack as a competent musician — and we welcome Jack Mahogov in the intern. We’re sure he’ll fit right in !

We’d like to give a special thanks to our fans in Sharon, Pennsylvania who gave a very warm welcome to Swingin’ Dick and the band last night. Sharon couldn’t get enough of Swingin’ Dick and the festivities went well beyond our planned close at midnight until around 4 AM. The lights around the town bandstand were especially well done–thanking the Ladies Club for handling Dick so very nicely. Dick’s off again heading westward for the band’s big opening in Strongsville, OH Saturday night and then heading westward for a one-day only event Sunday night in Muncie, Indiana. We’ll be playing our standard repertoire of alternating slow and hot beats — but if you want Dick to do anything special please be sure and email your requests and Dick will fit it in.

Hang on to your hat Rowan County–the Swingin’ Dick’s are heading your way ! Dick and the boys are heading into coed-country next Wednesday for one night only at the Morehead State University Student Union theater which will be followed up on Thursday night at the Rowan County Arts Center. We’d like to thank our booking agent for jumping on this and making it happen; the schedule was packed but when it came to a surprise chance at Morehead, Dick just couldn’t say no to the good folks there. We all know how Morehead was craving Swingin’ Dick and we are proud of making things happen. Our band bus full of Swingin’ Dick’s goodness should be pulling into Morehead Wednesday afternoon and there’ll be some hot action before the main event kicks off Wednesday night. Tickets are on sale now for both extravaganzas which are sure to sell out. Don’t be left hanging; reserve your shot at Swingin’ DIck’s now !

While showering at our hotel after a night of vigorous activity, Dick had a sudden epiphany. “Geez, these flow restrictors in the showerhead really suck.” And was dismayed to find out that they were Federally mandated. He quipped: “I’ll bet those peckerwoods pushing that ‘climate change’ crap are behind it. They’re the same ones wanting to save a few gallons on MY shower while they go out and spew ten thousand gallons on THEIR lawns.” There’s nothing like an angry Dick — so the folks in the band quickly calmed him down to his more balanced self pointing out that it’s easy to drill out the flow restrictors.

But we think Dick nailed it in summing up the situation.

We’d like to publicly apologize to our fans in Cleveland. Unfortunately you won’t be able to see Swingin’ Dicks tonight at the Orchid Room in Downtown Cleveland. We usually travel by our exclusive band limousine but it was in for scheduled maintenance and we were supposed to travel by air. As you know, the airlines are cancelling flights left and right due to their self-induced pilot shortage so the Swingin’ Dicks were all left stranded in Minnesota. But not to worry–it’s a lesson learned for Swingin’ Dick–who’ll be acquiring his own airplane to fly the band to their engagements when they’re not on the band bus. In the mean time, we expect to make it to Pittsburgh on schedule and have rescheduled our engagement in Cleveland for 7 pm on August 27th. We know how the ladies love the band; not to worry–there’ll be a busload of Swingin’ Dicks headed your way soon !

It was a rip-roaring time at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul last week ! But Dick’s sure bushed after all the activity–and has sure taking a pounding. Through Evansville, IN, up to Springfield IL, over to Shaker Heights, OH, Beautiful Downtown Ashtabula, Avon on the Lake, wonderful downtown Sandusky, then off for the long haul in to Minnesota. We’d like to give a special thanks to Chief Winston in Blue Ball, OH. Given the long trip on the road our band needed to stop for some good time RnR, and heaven knows Blue Ball can be the ticket for needed relief. Unfortunately, Justin and Anita decided to have a few too many libations and wound up in flagrant delecto on a park bench next to the courthouse fountain. The good Chief didn’t make a big deal of it or scold them too much for pulling such a boner. And helped them back to the hotel. Many thanks, Sir !

Also thank you especially to the good citizens of Ashtabula for the warm welcome and the fine hospitality. When you’re looking for a vacation there’s no place like Ashtabula. Dick found a very warm reception there.

You heard that right ! Dick and the boys are going to be playing one night only at the Palladium in Big Beaver, Pennsylvania on the 9th of September. The Palladium is located just off PA route 19 between Beaver Falls and Big Beaver; just a little bit south of the Y- intersection in downtown Big Beaver. Doors open at 7pm with music and fun beginning at 7:30. Tickets are on sale now. It’s a night of hard driving swing music featuring the hard-charging music of Fletcher Henderson. Bring your dates; all the ladies we know love Swingin’ Dick especially when the boys are driving hard !
